The UMa Dip: Break Dance Edition
Taught by Bboy Rukkus
The UMA DIP: Break Dance Edition intends to provide adults with an accessible way to try out one of the most athletic forms of dance. Breakin', commercially known as Break Dance, is hip hop's original dance, created by youth in the Bronx in the early 70s. It is a dance that is normally associated with youth. However, in many ways it is an elixir for youth for all of the OGs that grew up breaking. Although these OGs might not be throwing down with the same intensity, they are kept mobile and vibrant via the dynamic range that the dance requires. The dance comprehensively supports mobility, flexibility, strength and power.
Breaking is divided into components:
Top Rock: This is the stand up dance
Drops: This is how dancers enter the floor
Footwork: These are the patterns of kicks, swings, hops and steps that breakers do on their hands and feet on the ground
Powermoves: These are back spins, windmills, swipes, flares, 1990s, airflares and more. New comers will concentrate on the basics like body glides, back spins and swipes.
Freezes: These are the poses that breakers do to show that their round is complete. They can be more stance based, or a hand balance. Regardless they are about style.
The UMA DIP: Break Dance Edition makes all of the above fun, accessible and appropriate for adult learners. Participants will have a chance to explore the basics of the form which will allow for personal exploration through their bodies. You'll discover new possibilities for what you can do and have insights on ways to work on feats that are more foreign. Join the UMA Dip: Break Dance Edition for growth through the boogie down.
